Why Caribbean Islands

One region, many very different trips.

  • Beach week, by your definition. Calm leeward bays, surf-side stretches, private-island days. Classic Caribbean beach in Aruba or Antigua, low-key luxury in St. Barts or Anguilla, sail-up coves in the Grenadines.
  • Diving, the real reason some come. Bonaire and Curaçao for ABC drift reefs, Cayman walls, Saba pinnacles, Bahamas for tigers and Caribbean reef sharks. We build dive-led weeks separately from beach trips.
  • Nature beyond the lounger. Dominica's rainforest interior, Saint Lucia's twin volcanic Pitons, Puerto Rico's El Yunque, Trinidad's wildlife and Carnival. Plenty of trip beyond the beach.
  • Short flights from the Eastern US. Roughly 4 hours from Miami, ~4.5 from NYC. No long flight, no jetlag: beach by sunset on day one.
  • Easy entry, easy currency. No visas for US/CA/UK/EU travelers on most islands, and US dollars are accepted almost everywhere alongside the local currency.

When to travel

The best time to visit, month by month.

High season is December through April. Hurricane season runs June through November. Most direct hits miss any one island, but it's a planning factor.

February–April is the perfect window: driest, sunniest, lightest crowds before Easter spike. May is our favorite shoulder: festival season (Jazz Fest), low prices, weather still on. Avoid August–October if you're hurricane-averse: the storms usually miss but the rain doesn't.

Common questions

The Caribbean, answered.

The questions our planners hear every week. If yours isn't here, a 15-minute call is the fastest way to a real answer.

Is the Caribbean a good destination for families?

Yes! The Caribbean is one of the easiest family trips, with short flights from the US (Bahamas is just 1 hour from Miami!), no jetlag, and calm beaches. We match the island to the family, depending on your preferred travel style!

How do we choose which Caribbean island?

The best Caribbean island depends on the type of trip you want. Aruba, Barbados, Antigua, and the Bahamas are favorites for beaches and relaxation; Bonaire and Curaçao for diving; Saint Lucia, Dominica, and Grenada for nature and adventure; Puerto Rico and Jamaica for culture and outdoor activities; and St. Barts for luxury. We start with your dates, budget, and travel style, then match you with the right island (or combination of islands) for your trip.

When is the best time to visit the Caribbean?

December through April is generally the best time to visit the Caribbean, with sunny weather, lower humidity, and calm seas. For fewer crowds and better value, we love May, June, and early November. Hurricane season runs from June through November, with the highest risk typically in August and September, but some islands, including Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Barbados, and Trinidad & Tobago, sit on the southern edge of the region and are often excellent options year-round.

Which Caribbean island is best for a honeymoon?

Every couple is different! Saint Lucia is a famous go-to and one we plan often. Anguilla is ideal for travelers who care most about beautiful beaches and great restaurants, while St. Barts combines French-Caribbean charm with some of the best dining and luxury hotels in the region. The good news? There isn't one "best" honeymoon island. The key is choosing the island that matches your travel style, which is exactly where we help.

What about hurricane season in the Caribbean?

Hurricane season runs from June through November, with the highest risk typically in August and September. While storms do occur, the Caribbean is a large region and there are options! Some islands, including Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao, sit outside the primary hurricane belt and are excellent year-round options. If you're traveling during this time, we'll help you choose the right island, prioritize flexible booking options, and strongly recommend travel insurance for added peace of mind.

Where should I dive in the Caribbean?

For diving, our favorites include Bonaire for world-class shore diving, Curaçao for healthy reefs and easy access, the Bahamas for shark encounters, and Grenada for wreck diving. If diving is a major focus of your trip, we recommend exploring our sister company, Dive the Americas, which specializes exclusively in scuba diving vacations throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.

Can I combine the Caribbean with other destinations?

Absolutely. Many of our favorite Caribbean itineraries combine two very different islands, such as Saint Kitts and St. Eustatius, or Antigua and Barbuda. You can also pair the Caribbean with destinations like Costa Rica, Belize, or Mexico for a longer adventure. We'll help design the routing so the flights, connections, and pace of the trip feel seamless rather than rushed.

What's the biggest mistake travelers make when planning a Caribbean trip?

Choosing a hotel before choosing the island. The Caribbean isn't one destination. It's dozens of islands, each with its own personality. Jamaica offers a completely different experience than St. Barts, and a diving-focused trip to Bonaire will feel nothing like a beach escape in Antigua or Barbados. We help you start with the experience you want to have, then match you with the right island and hotel to bring it to life.
