Granada's colonial streets, Ometepe's twin volcanoes, and uncrowded Pacific beaches: the kind of trip you'll be smug about taking.
Why Nicaragua

Nicaragua at a glance
Everything you need to know before you start planning.
When to travel
The dry season is the easy answer; the green season is when Nicaragua actually looks like itself.
November and December are our favorite months: the rains have just stopped, the country is green, the air is clear, and crowds are still light. February through April are reliably dry but hotter. May through October is green-season territory: stormy afternoons, low rates, half the travelers.

"The most awesome anniversary trip!! Thanks to Melanie, Kathleen, and team, our adventures were amazing — sunset sailing, ATV riding, a rainforest night hike, and more. The highlight was the boutique hotel recommendations — we loved Amor! Service and food quality were outstanding. First time we used a travel planner and it won't be the last. I loved how easy it was to tell them what we wanted, our budget, and timeframe — everything was seamless. Thank you for all the priceless memories!"
Common questions
The questions our planners hear every week. If yours isn't here, a 15-minute call is the fastest way to a real answer.
Surfers, adventure seekers, and travelers who love the feeling of discovering somewhere early. Nicaragua has world-class Pacific waves, active volcanoes you can hike and board down, gorgeous colonial cities, and a Caribbean coast that most people have never even considered. The tourism infrastructure is still developing, which is exactly the point. The travelers who thrive here are the ones who want something real, not a destination that has already been polished smooth.
November through April is the dry season on Nicaragua's Pacific side: clear skies, reliable surf, and ideal weather for Granada, Ometepe, and the southwest coast. November and April are our shoulder favorites, with green landscapes and fewer travelers. The May to October green season brings stormy afternoons but a lush, uncrowded country. Worth it!
Nicaragua trades polish for discovery. Where Costa Rica leads on wildlife density and seamless infrastructure, Nicaragua counters with colonial soul: Granada's candy-colored streets, the twin volcanoes of Ometepe rising from a freshwater lake, and surf coves around San Juan del Sur that still feel found rather than developed.
Underestimating the Corn Islands. Travelers try to tack them on as a quick beach coda, then discover they sit far out in the Caribbean, reached by a Managua flight to Big Corn and a panga onward, with weather that can rearrange the schedule. We always build in extra time in case mother nature decides to do her thing.
Honestly? Only if you are serious about adventure. Hiking up an active volcano in the heat carrying a wooden board, then hurtling down a steep ash slope at 50 miles per hour is a specific kind of fun. If that sentence excites you, absolutely do it. If it does not, skip it. Nicaragua has plenty of extraordinary experiences that do not require you to eat volcanic dust on the way down.
