Cartagena's walled city, Medellín's eternal spring, and the green hills of coffee country: paced for warmth, food, and altitude variety.
Why Colombia

Colombia at a glance
Everything you need to know before you start planning.
When to travel
Two dry windows: December–March and July–August. Medellín basically ignores both.
December–March is the prime window: sunny Cartagena, dry Andes, peak prices. July–August is a second dry window and lines up with Medellín's Feria de las Flores. June and September are our quiet favorites; April–May and October–November bring afternoon rain but the country empties out.

"Great experience working with ETA. I was overwhelmed before planning my trip because I was traveling with five people, so coordinating travel, accommodations, car rental, and activities for a group was challenging. After my call with them I felt much more confident, and they were super helpful with booking my car — they got me a rate better than what I would have found on my own!"
Common questions

Colombia is ideal for travelers who enjoy a mix of culture, nature, food, and adventure. It works especially well for curious travelers who want more than just a beach vacation, whether that's exploring Cartagena's colorful streets, visiting coffee farms in the Coffee Region, hiking beneath towering wax palms in the Cocora Valley, or discovering Medellín's incredible transformation. While Colombia can work for families, we find it is best for couples, friend groups, and active experienced travelers looking for depth and variety.
A lot of travelers to Colombia do all three, because each delivers a different mood. Cartagena is the walled colonial Caribbean, with a standout food scene and beach days at the Rosario Islands. Medellin is the spring-climate, design-forward city of cable cars, Comuna 13, and day trips to Guatape. The Eje Cafetero coffee region is the slow, green counterpoint: boutique haciendas, bean-to-cup tastings, and the Cocora Valley.
Colombia has changed dramatically over the past few decades, but many travelers still picture the country as it was 20 or 30 years ago. Today, destinations like Cartagena, Medellín, the Coffee Region, and many of the country's most popular tourist areas welcome visitors from around the world every day. As with any destination, it's important to use common-sense precautions and stay informed about where you're traveling, but most visitors are pleasantly surprised by how welcoming, vibrant, and easy Colombia feels once they're there. We also work closely with trusted local partners and guides to help ensure a smooth experience from start to finish.
Do you love eating amazing food for shockingly low prices? Then Colombia might be your dream destination. Cartagena has incredible restaurants, fresh seafood, and Caribbean flavors, while the dining scenes in Medellín and Bogotá have evolved dramatically over the last decade with a wave of creative chefs, stylish new restaurants, and excellent coffee culture. The quality-to-price ratio is hard to beat.
You can, but for most travelers we recommend mixing Cartagena with either the Rosario Islands or another region of Colombia. Cartagena itself is perfect for 3–4 nights, giving you time to explore the Old Town, Getsemaní, the food scene, and the city's history. After that, many travelers enjoy slowing down with a few nights in the Rosario Islands or continuing on to places like Medellín or the Coffee Region. Cartagena is a fantastic base, but it's often even better as part of a larger Colombia itinerary.
Colombia's small boutique stays go first: Cannua Lodge outside Medellin and the eight-room Hacienda Bambusa in coffee country sell out quickly, as do the island hotels in the Rosario archipelago. Festival weeks squeeze everything else, so we hold space during these peak weeks early!
